Stenberg | Cahill Duo @ Old First Church

World premiere by local Canadian-born composer, Aaron Gervais.

Newly formed in 2016, the Stenberg | Cahill Duo is dedicated to promoting the American experimental tradition and expanding it through the commissioning of new work. This program includes the World Premiere Aaron Gervais’ Talking in Circles with performances of Gabriela Lena Frank’s Sueños de Chambi: Snapshots for an Andean Album, Kaija Saariaho’s Tocar, Linda Catlin Smith’s With Their Shadows Long, and works by Henry Cowell and Grażyna Bacewicz. Recent appearances include performances at San Francisco Performances’ PIVOT Festival, the Mendocino Music Festival, BAMPFA, and the Music by the Mountain Festival.

Crowden Adult Chamber Music Seminar

Kate Stenberg coaches at the Crowden Chamber Music for Adults
Director and violist with Left Coast Chamber Ensemble, Phyllis Kamrin 

This five-day intensive workshop features daily coached rehearsals, as well as daily master classes and independent rehearsal time. Each participant plays in two ensembles, delving into chamber music’s most beloved pieces. Crowden’s renowned chamber music faculty share their passion and expertise as they guide students through a deepened development of ensemble playing skills and music appreciation, culminating in a concert for family and friends on the workshop’s final day. Group placement is based on audition. Pre-formed groups are welcome and encouraged to apply.

Garden of Memory

The Garden of Memory is held every June 21st from 5pm to 9pm to celebrate the solstice at The Chapel of the Chimes in Oakland, California. Note that tickets are ALWAYS available at the door throughout the event. Advance ticket sales online will end on June 20th.

Kate Stenberg joins Sarah Cahill to play the music of Kaija Saariaho and Gabriela Lena Frank at the Garden of Memory Chapel of the Chimes walk-through. They will be performing in the Chimes Chapel, please check the performance schedule at the door.

San Francisco Performances PIVOT: New Adventures in Performing Arts

In an intensive five-day exploration, PIVOT celebrates creator-performers on the American artistic edge. Bay Area pianist and contemporary music specialist Sarah Cahill will lead a celebration of visionary California composer Lou Harrison’s 100th birthday, partnering with Kate Stenberg, the Alexander String Quartet and William Winant Percussion Group, who will perform on instruments built by Harrison himself.
